For those into sustainability and avoiding toys cluttering the home (who isn’t?) toy libraries are the way to go. The Ponsonby Toy Library has, as you would expect, a large range of toys, all lovingly cared for by Cara and her team of volunteers.
This quaint spot just next to the Plunket rooms at Three Lamps in Ponsonby has a sunny grass courtyard perfect for little ones to test drive which scooter, go-cart or lawnmower they want to borrow. With toys being a social currency for little ones, this is also a great opportunity for interaction with other little ones also deliberating which toys to take home. Of course inside there are two organised rooms that are stacked from floor to ceiling with DVDs, mini kitchens and games.
Members are able to borrow up to seven per visit with the Thunderbirds range proving popular as well as the kitchenettes for the MasterChef Juniors.
Discounted memberships are available to parents who volunteer at the library. And becoming a member is certainly going to replenish your little ones enthusiasm towards different toys … and will be kinder to the planet!
Open every Tuesday and Friday (9.30-11.45am) and Saturday (9am-12pm)
Just a hop, skip and a jump from here is Dorothy Butler Children’s Bookshop.
